The winner of the Finger Lakes Lavender Festival 2012 Poster Art Contest...

Christy Lemp

The Finger Lakes Lavender Festival committee is honored to announce a beautiful watercolor painting by local artist, Christy Lemp as the official 2012 Finger Lakes Lavender Festival artwork. The festival will showcase the art on this years' poster, t-shirts and other promotional materials.  Christy will be one of the many festival artists appearing this year and will be signing the poster during the July 14th and 15th event. The proceeds from the sale of the poster during the festival will be donated to the SPCA.
The watercolor painting will appear in the summer issue of Plank Road Magazine.

We want to thank everyone who participated in this years contest.  The talented artists have made it difficult  for the festival committee to pick one winner year after year.

A Interview with Christy...

Christy is thrilled to have her painting selected for this year's Lavender Festival poster.
I love everything about Karen and Gary's lavender farm, and the Festival is such a great
way to share its special beauty and atmosphere. I've been painting scenes of the farm for
a couple years now, and have been driven to try and capture what they have created: a
picturesque farm full of wonderfully scented lavender, framed by the background of our
beautiful lake and their adorable sheep and lambs. It fills all of the senses, and I can
never get enough of it.  Also, knowing the proceeds were going to benefit the SPCA was a big motivator to create a really nice poster that everyone would enjoy.”

Christy loves to paint watercolor landscapes, flowers, and moments in time that are
intimately rendered, focusing on Central New York, and other travels. Many are painted
on site, and portray everyday scenes that make you stop and smile; a neighbor’s tulips,
pumpkins on the porch, birds in the backyard or a misty morning on the lake. She feels
there is an energy in these moments, especially in the early morning or late afternoon
light that the transparency and luminosity of watercolors really convey.
She loves meeting people who appreciate art and the beautiful scenery our world offers.
The artist lives in Skaneateles NY with her family where she especially enjoys exploring
the lakeside and country roads for images and ideas to paint. When the snow finally
melts, she does local art shows and fairs and donates paintings and prints for fundraising
events.
