Finger Lakes Lavender Festival 2016 Schedule and Activities

Saturday, July 9th and Sunday, July 10th

9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. Cut-Your-Own Lavender ($5/ bunch)
Our expert volunteers will demonstrate how and where to cut your own bouquet.

9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.  Artists and Crafters will be offering unique products from handcrafted jewelry, handmade wooden bowl, pottery, artistic landscapes, photography and so much more.  Shop Lockwood Lavender Farm's, Lavender Market offering all-natural lavender and honey products.

Saturday, July 9th

11:00a.m. Graham Ottoson, Queen of Gourdlandia, will share tips on cultivation of this amazing vegetable, and demonstrate some of the steps in turning gourds into vessels.

12:00p.m. Tim Connolly from Skaneateles Hops will discuss the process of growing hops.  Hops are a perennial herb used in the flavoring and preservation of beer.  Hops give beer and ales their characteristic bitterness and aroma.

1:00p.m.  Lavender 101:  Your guide to planting, caring and harvesting lavender by Lockwood Lavender Farm owner, Karen Wheeler-Lockwood.

2:00p.m.  Lavender Oil Distilling Demonstration by Lockwood Lavender Farm owners, Karen Wheeler-Lockwood and Gary Lockwood

3:00p.m.  Sheep Shearing Demonstration by Gary Lockwoodowner of Lockwood Lavender Farm followed by a Wool Spinning Demonstration by Marilee Williams.

Sunday, July 10th

10:00a.m. Chef Don Agate from Oat and Vine in the Springside Inn, Auburn, NY will prepare Succulent Maine Mussels Sautéed with Lavender, Shallots, Chardonnay and Butter.

11:00a.m. Kate Ward from Dickman Farms Greenhouses and Garden Center will present  Bunches of Blossoms: Growing a Cutting and Edible Garden:  Learn how to select and combine a team of plants to build a beautiful and bountiful cutting garden.  She’ll share a few tidbits about cultivating some tasty floral treats too.  All levels of interest and experience are invited to listen in!

12:00p.m.  Gail Baker presents:  Bees and Monarchs
Thanks to bee keepers and monarch societies the danger of losing our pollinators is decreasing. What can you do to help this cause by bringing bees and butterflies into your home garden?
